Closing Cost Assistance in Public Remarks Field
There has been some confusion regarding the recent rule change allowing the use of closing cost assistance in Public Remarks. The only type of closing cost assistance prohibited in Public Remarks is an offer of buyer assistance contingent upon the buyer not using another agent. Such an offer would specifically contradict the spirit of cooperation, which is fundamental to REIN and virtually all multiple listing services.
The following examples should clarify what is permissible in REIN Public Remarks and what is not:
Permissible - X amount in closing cost assistance - X amount in closing cost assistance if using builder's lender Note: This is permissible because it does not impact cooperation among REIN members.
Not Permissible - X amount in closing cost assistance provided buyer doesn't use an agent
